CUSTOMS AND TRADITIONS OF KENYA

 Kenya is a multilingual country. the official language of Kenya is Swahili and English. At 580,367 square kilometers, Kenya is the world's 48 largest country by total area. It has exceed many other African countries simply because of its people. There people are very humble and versatile.



The culture of Kenya is a unique mixture of African customs and traditions and modern 20th century influences. This mix culture is clearly presented in various ways classifying from its language, people festivals, food, ethical values and norms. art and artifacts. Kenya is a diverse country identity wise of the 45 million people that live here, the majority come from the 42 ethnic groups and each of them have their own native language. it have three major groups that make up the native population include Bantu who make up the majority. Nilotic and Cushitic people. 13% of population  is made up of people of non-African heredity i.e. European, Indian and Arab people. The people of Kenya practice different religions due to the Kenyan constitution allows for freedom of worship. 10% of people are Muslims, 80% of people practices the Christian faith, small minority of Sikh and Hindus. One a very good thing about Kenya people is that, that they give very importance to family. They live together, it is also the norms to find parents of the husband coming to live with their nuclear family once they are old and can no longer take care of themselves. 

Common greeting of Kenya is "Jambo" which means "How are you", after greeting it is the norm of these people to ask about health, family, and business. Their family were very friendly and hospitable. In any important social and religious events they give gift to servants, workers, and tradespeople. When they set down for eating the males person first started their dinner, and then the children and females eats. Their people are very polite they cannot talk directly and also they did not show anger in any situation they always control their emotions, and expect all these things from other peoples. This country does not have a specific national cuisine there exist three national dishes which is Ugali, Nyama Choma and Sukuma Wiki.



Kenya have three festivals which is Luma Cultural Festival (located on the north cost of Kenya. Luma is an island it is most famous festival and it consist of races and competition). Lake Turkana Festival (started from 2008, it has three day festival and it combined the different communities that live around the lake and they display their dances, dressing, and food). Maralal Camel Derby (it is dusty and sleepy town, thisfestival is about the race of the camels). 


This country is known for the big Five and the Great Wildebeest Migration. It's also known for its world record breaking athletes, its rich biodiversity and great safari destinations. According to the report,  Kenya renks well in the peace and security category as well as sports but this country poorly faces the lack of science and technology and employability categories. They have  different wedding traditions. Most communities have three meetings. First the bride parents meet with the guy and his father and other family members. Second is dowry negotiation. In the last meeting, the dowry is often paid or the wedding plans are gone over.





 Every year many tourist visit Kenya to go on safari and to visit its spectacular coastline around Mombasa. Major tourist attraction in Kenya is Wildlife viewing of animals such as lions, elephants and giraffes. Although it is a beautiful country, there people is very hospitable. There lifestyle is very simple. They treat everyone very well. These people give importance to family. The people of Kenya is very respective and loving.
